We parked and took the half mile, up hill walk to view the falls which, of course, are spectacular.

Lower Whitewater Falls, located just across the border in South Carolina, drops another 400 feet. Some sources say it's the highest falls east of the Mississippi River at 411', but I'm not so sure. Whitewater Falls is the highest waterfall east of the Rockies, falling 811 ft.! One of the highest waterfalls east of the Rockies, Whitewater Falls stands at 411 feet and boasts a newly-paved path to an overlook and shelters for picnicking.

When you raft with us, you’ll appreciate how you are treated by your guide. The Whitewater River drops 700+ feet in about a half mile before it flows into Lake Jocassee.

If you could visit only one waterfall in Western NC, this may be the one I'd recommend. A highlight of the East Rockies, the Upper Whitewater Falls cascade through rocks and ledges creating a serene waterscape on the Whitewater River.

The upper portion falls in North Carolina while the lower portion falls in South Carolina. A sign labeled “Upper Falls” marks the trail head behind the information board. Whitewater Falls on the Whitewater River is the last river in the Jocassee Gorge area just before you reach South Carolina. The water just falls off the side of the mountain for hundreds of feet. And though more travelers journey to Upper Whitewater Falls in North Carolina, the Lower Falls in Oconee County comprise a 200-foot drop as dramatic as any in this guide.

Part of the hike takes you to the bedrock area at the top of the 50' Upper Creek Falls. The rugged terrain around these two waterfalls remains wild and undeveloped.

Mile 0.0 – Hike begins at the gravel parking area for Upper Creek Falls, located in Pisgah National Forest. To access an amazing view of the Upper Falls, take a short 1/4 mile hike from the walkway to the paved overlook. This hike is a 1.6 mile loop, and most people head left towards the top of the waterfall.
