Dolly Sods Scenic Lookout - 0.2 miles in Dolly Sods Wilderness, WV. We normally just camp in the campground. If you haven't been, I highly recommend another trip, this time to the Northern end. The Bear Rocks Trail in Dolly Sods Wilderness, West Virginia, is a moderate 2.2 mile out-and-back hike to the intersection of Dobbin Grade Trail (TR-526) or an easy 4.8 mile out-and-back hike to the intersection of Raven Ridge Trail (TR-521) further west into Dolly Sods. The Dolly Sods 2006 button links to a different report and more pictures. I love the Sods. I am a photographer and will be around Lewisburg and Petersburg. The Dobbin Grade Trail within the Dolly Sods Wilderness at the Monongahela National Forest is an easy 4.5 mile one-way trail that connects the Bear Rocks Trail to the Rocky Ridge Trail and cuts across almost the entirety of the Sods. This short and windy trail leads from the Dolly Sods parking lot up to the Bear Rocks Preservation. As we drove by the Bear Rocks Trail Head after the requisite Sheetz stop, we noticed the long line of cars parked off the road. Sorry this is late; hope you enjoyed your memorial day weekend. If you go to BWF for sunrise or sunset (not sure which would be best since I am not sure of their layout in relation to the sun coming up/down) you should go to Lindy Point and Pendleton Point overlooks. If you are an overnight backpacker, it appears that Dolly Sods offers solitude and a unique environment. Petersburg to BWF is about 40 miles.
