The Christmas market in Besançon has been spreading throughout December since 1993, while a carnival parade has been held since 1978, bringing together 20,000 to 30,000 people each year in the streets of the city center. It also wasn’t too crowded which is a nice change from the one in Birmingham which, although nice to visit, feels like a death trap after the second or third time when the stalls are no longer brand new.
On the walls, there are speakers playing Christmas carols and this evening, after uni, I walked around the beautiful Christmas market which has little lights hanging over the market between the trees like a kind of net which looks like a roof made of tiny twinkling stars.
