I am thinking 35 Whelen or 358 Winchester. 760 Remington 243, 300 Sav & 308 358 Winchester. There were numerous .35-caliber rifle cartridges born in the 20th century, but most of them didn’t live to see the dawning of the 21st century. I think the 308 win is much closer to a 30-06 then the 358 win is to the 35 whelen. It should also be noted that with 200 to 225 grain bullets some rifles produce velocities up to 100fps above figures quoted here. Thanks, in the back of my mind I was really wondering about the 9.x62 vs. the 35 Whelen. However, for those intent on the endeavor of chasing top velocities the .35 Whelen is a more practical cartridge choice; the Whelen produces velocities on average 150fps higher than the .358 Winchester.

The chart below compares how much a 10 mile per hour crosswind impacts those same .308 Winchester, .338 Federal, and .358 Winchester loads out to 500 yards. I see that CVA makes a single shot in this caliber but it is an under 6lb rifle.
