But I wanted this rifle for hunting, not collecting.
All this to say that IMO the 358 Winchester is a good cartridge for deer hunting. To appease those hunters who wanted more punch, Winchester offered a necked-up .35-caliber version of the .308, the .358 Win. The .358 Winchester has been described as a short version of the .35 Whelen, though based on the .308. Campfire Oracle.
