The ammo doesn't feed as well and I don't really see a huge advantage in a .270 vs a .270wsm.
The following ammunition cartridge ballistics information and chart can be used to approximately compare .270 WSM Winchester Short Magnum vs .308 Winchester ammo rounds.
The 300 WSM also held the 1,000 yard US record for group size for a time so accuracy can be very good.
I got interested in the 300 WSM a couple years ago and have since owned a couple. $2+ for a piece of Winchester brass?
Recoil doesn't bother me so much as muzzle lift.
Hi Adam I have no experience with 6.8 projectiles in 270 only 110 v max which can be finicky. It is more available than the .270 Weatherby Magnum has ever been.
There are a few good bullets for them but all in all they just haven't took hold in the LR community. I'm looking to buy an all-around big-game gun for deer, elk and bear. But the 300 WSM … I'm not a huge fan of the WSM cartridges although you get a shorter action gun.
Same weight bullet, same velocity = same recoil. Good luck The correct name for the cartridge, as listed by the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers' Institute (), is 270 WSM, without a decimal point. It is a member of the Winchester Short Magnum family of cartridges. It doesn’t break new ballistic ground; technically the 65-year-old .270 Weatherby Magnum is just as fast.
Got Norma brass. Good luck Registered Users do not see the above ad. This short, fat case is supposed to match the ballistics of the old, long 300 Win. The 325 WSM I compare to the 270WSM in popularity. Enjoy this article about the .270 vs .30-06 debate?
I'm not a huge fan of the WSM cartridges although you get a shorter action gun. Recoil comparisons of WSM to WSM cases, loaded to thier full potential,(270-140 thru 160gr/300-165-200gr) as to say that one is So much less recoil, is rediculous unless your comparing a light loaded 270 bullet of extreme light weight (say 100gr @ 2900fps), to a hot loaded 30 cal of extreme weight, (like a 230 @ 2900 fps). The 270 WSM has the power to take down an elk at 800 yds. This is important especially if your making longer shots at smaller critters like deer or antelope and don't know the exact range. Or so goes the advertising hype.
It's got me on the fence between a .270 wsm and a .300 (WSM or win mag.)
It's got me on the fence between a .270 wsm and a .300 (WSM or win mag.)
I've read about the amped up velocity and energy on the .270 wsm compared to the traditional .270. It’s the battle of the aught-six offspring.
Recoil of the 300 WSM should be pretty much the same as the 300 Win Mag. I'm a smaller framed female shooter.
