Another thing to think about is how the weapon is fired. In short, the smaller the gauge of a shotgun, the larger the bore diameter. mag Remington Slugger kicks much harder than my 8-mm Mauser rifle and 7.62 x 54mm Mosin Nagant.

As a result, I shot 20 gauge in the 12 gauge events at skeet tournaments. The same shell fired from my great uncle's old single shot will bruise your shoulder.
